INTERMEDIATE VINYASA with Lisa
This class was from March 27th 2021. This is an active flow that will challenge your body as well as your mind. I always like to encourage the use of blocks and any other props for your practice. In this particular practice, we will work on our hands a lot so prepare your wrists for some active work!
GENTLE YOGA FOR ALL OVER TENSION RELEASE with Lisa
Grab all your props for this grounding and tension releasing practice. We start on our backs and work our way up into some gentle mobility work and then back down again. You will need a strap and two blocks. Optional blanket and pets for extra support and coziness.
FAMILIAR STUFF, DIFFERENT APPROACH FLOW with Lisa
One of my favorite parts of a regular yoga practice is how it feels different every time you do it. In this flow, the poses will all be familiar but we may approach them differently with a new perspective and a new opportunity for self inquiry. Enjoy!
MOVE THROUGH OPEN AND CLOSED HIP POSITIONS with Lisa
The hip is a joint, which means that it’s a moveable part of your body. Motion at the hip takes place when the femur and pelvis move in relation to each other. There are lots of movements available at the hip joint, including hip extension (moving the thigh behind you, as in salabhasana or locust), hip flexion (think diving forward from tadasana to uttanasana), hip abduction (moving your thigh out to the side, like your back leg in warrior 2), hip adduction (moving the thigh toward your midline - think eagle pose), and internal and external rotation. Ideally all of these motions would be fluid and easy for you all of the time, but all too often, our hip joint movement is restricted in one or more planes (or all of them), resulting in hips we experience as “tight”. Technically, the entire yoga practice is a hip opening and closing experience, my hope for you is to align your body with integrity and make each pose your own.
COMPRESSION AND TENSION with Lisa
Tension is the familiar sensation of tissues being stretched. Compression is the sensation of tissues being pressed or pushed together. Tension: If the sensation you are feeling is coming from your muscles and/or ligaments being pulled or stretched apart from one another, this is tension. Tension can be in the form of a stretch but also a twist. Tension in yoga is when the body seems to open up over time in the same pose. When you are feeling tension, you are stretching your body in a way that is loving and gentle, the tension will decrease over time as the body's flexibility increases and starts to open in response to continued practice. Compression: If the sensation you are feeling is coming from tissues being pressed into each other, this is compression. Compression during yoga is when the body hits a boundary that it cannot move beyond. We explore a little of both in this class!
